Deschutes National Forest Approves Class 1 E-Bikes on Select Trails
The Deschutes National Forest Service has announced approval of Class 1 pedal-assist E-bikes on select trails near the communities of Sisters, Bend and Sunriver. Other classes of E-bikes/E-devices (except adaptive devices) continue to be prohibited. The decision was made following public input, research, collaboration with user organizations and completion of the NEPA review process.

What is STA's role?
Sisters Trails Alliance leadership supports the Forest Service rule change to allow Class 1, pedal assist E-bikes on the Peterson Ridge trail system and Elk Ranch trail. This helps to achieve our goal of access to trails for users of all ages and ability levels, providing a more fulfilling outdoor experience for everyone.
STA will help prepare for this change by:
Collaborating with our partners at the Forest Service to install signs at critical junctions and boundaries to show where E-bikes are allowed and not allowed
Work with local bike shops and organizations to implement rider education and trail etiquette messaging
Continued stewardship of the trail system
